Cllr Monica Whyte

Liberal Democrat GLA Candidate for Enfield & Haringey

Enfield

Chase Farm Hospital

I have been the London Region Local Party representative for Enfield and Haringey for the last two years. In Enfield I have been working with the Local Party executive and their campaign team.

The biggest priority for us in Enfield, electorally, is getting councillors elected. In Haringey, there were no Lib Dem councillors before the 1998 election. In that election we got 3 councillors and in 2002 built that up to 15. Now we have 27 councillors and the local MP. It has taken a lot of hard work - consistent hard work and targeting.

I know how to campaign and want to make sure that Enfield copies Haringey's success in building up Lib Dem support.

The widening of the North Circular Road is a key issue for both Enfield and Haringey - and an issue which has been dragging on for too long. it is important that we do what we can to reduce congestion, while also making sure that pedestrian safety is a top priority.

NCR - Enfield

While the widening of the road will be welcomed by many, it puts some of our local shops and communities under threat. Displacement, loss of parking and the change to the streetscene all pose serious problems for local shops, which are the lifeblood of our communities. Rat running is also a possible consequence of the widening. On this issue I promise to represent local views and ensure that the works are properly planned and give the best result for the whole community.

Chase Farm Hospital is under threat. It is clear that improvements are needed to the hospital - but these should be made, and not used as an excuse to close it down. Successive Labour and Tory politicians have closed local services, from hospitals to post offices, and we need a strong Lib Dem voice that will fight for services to be retained within our communities.
